Welcome to kulu.food. By accessing or using our platform, including the website, mobile application, and API, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.

1. About kulu.food

kulu.food is a community-powered platform that helps users discover halal-friendly restaurants. All restaurant metadata (halal certification, alcohol status, ownership, zabihah compliance, etc.) is crowd-sourced from community members, not verified by kulu.food.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to create an account and use the platform. By using kulu.food, you confirm that you meet this requirement.

3. User accounts

  • You must sign in using a supported authentication provider (currently Google via Auth0).
  • You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
  • You may not share your account credentials or allow others to access your account.
  • We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

4. Community contributions

When you submit an attestation (a factual observation about a restaurant), you agree that:

  • Your contribution reflects your own personal, good-faith observation.
  • You will not deliberately submit false, misleading, or malicious information.
  • Your contributions become part of the aggregate community data and may be displayed publicly in aggregate form (individual attestations are not publicly attributed to your name).
  • You earn points for new attestations (currently 5 points per attestation). Points are for community recognition only and hold no monetary value.

5. Roles & responsibilities

  • Users may search restaurants and submit attestations.
  • Regional Managers may additionally add new restaurants within their assigned regions.
  • Super Admins manage the platform, metadata definitions, and user roles.

Elevated roles are granted at the sole discretion of kulu.food administrators.

6. Prohibited conduct

You agree not to:

  • Submit deliberately false or misleading information.
  • Attempt to manipulate attestation counts or game the points system.
  • Use automated tools, bots, or scrapers to access the platform without permission.
  • Harass, impersonate, or abuse other community members.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the platform’s systems or data.

7. Disclaimer of accuracy

kulu.food does not guarantee the accuracy of any information on the platform. All restaurant metadata is community-sourced and may be incomplete, outdated, or conflicting. kulu.food is not a halal certification body and does not provide religious rulings or dietary guidance.

You are solely responsible for making your own informed decisions about where and what to eat. When in doubt, consult a trusted local scholar or imam.

8. Intellectual property

All platform content, design, code, and branding are the property of kulu.food or its contributors. Community-contributed attestation data is used under a perpetual, non-exclusive license granted by contributors.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, kulu.food and its team shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform or reliance on information provided on it.

10. Modifications

We may update these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated through the platform. Your continued use after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

11. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access at any time, for any reason, including violation of these Terms.
