Search on Kulu just got a lot better. Look up a restaurant by name and Kulu finds it, wherever it is, fast, and forgiving of typos and partial names.
We built this on Meilisearch, an engine we host ourselves so search stays fast and reliable without leaning on anyone else’s infrastructure.
Try it yourself, this box is wired to the same search running in the app right now:
What this sets up next
This is also the first step toward something bigger. Once there’s a strong enough pool of restaurants with real community observations behind them, that same data becomes something you can filter by, not just search by. Preference filters are already on our roadmap, and a search this good is what makes that possible.
None of this changes what the community reports on a restaurant, still a set of questions people answer for themselves. Search just gets you there faster. So keep using the app, and whenever you’re at a restaurant, or thinking back to one you’ve visited, take a minute to answer what you know about it. The fuller that picture gets, the more useful search and filtering both become.
